The tent is always specific to a place, but it is also an essential form, the most archaic presence of architecture. For this installation on the plaza in front of the Arab World Institute in Paris, we created a giant tent whose rhythm and scale renders a topographic dimension which pays homage to the nomadic architectures of southern Morocco. Constructed from more than 650 m2 of camel and goat wool woven by female cooperatives in the Saharan desert combined with a high-performance Serge Ferrari membrane, the tent harmonizes contemporary design and technical innovation with traditional fabrication methods to create unprecedented curvatures and shapes. The result is a primitive and sophisticated presence in the heart of the capital.
