"HOME" installation at Museum of Architecture of London (Cultural Olympiad 2012)

Cette exposition, organisée par le Musée d’Architecture de Londres, avait pour ambition de mener un travail d’investigation autour des espaces domestiques dans un univers mondialisé. Le commissariat a décidé de laisser libre cours aux architectes sélectionnés d’offrir une réflexion sur l’identité et le rapport à la domesticité. Dans cette optique, nous avons pris le parti de mettre en place une installation dédiée à la question de la diaspora. La mobilité étant au cœur de la problématique, nous avons fait le choix de ne pas présenter de dispositifs architecturaux domestiques, mais une collection d’objets transportés. Présentée sur un même plan, monochrome, l’installation déploie tous les objets qui fabriquent la domesticité, le tout devenant une surface de projection en reliefs, pour les témoignages apportés par les marocains du monde.

The exhibition is an investigation into domestic architectural spaces with a focus on the Arab world. The spaces and constructions encountered within the exhibition explore representations of a home, specific to the region, recognizably linked to a country, known to an individual. New models, revised structures, the preservation of traditional building techniques and mythologies are all examined and reviewed through contemporary installations. The installations emphasize a specific element or represent fictional, misremembered versions and long held misconceptions about the way in which people inhabit spaces. Home is not a bygone era, nor an architectural relic, nor a geo-political signpost. It is instead a world of our own creation, a retooling of our surroundings to accommodate our needs and reflect our image of ourselves.
