Construction of three houses and a communal farm

Ce projet explore à travers une case study de trois maisons dans un territoire agricole, des formes nouvelles de domesticité et de cohabitation. La ligne n’étant pas une forme domestique, elle n’inclut pas, elle cerne. Face à la montagne, ces maisons habitent la même épaisseur. Les seuils entre public, commun, privé et intime, n’existent plus uniquement dans un rapport à l’avant et à l’arrière, mais se résolvent de manière graduelle le long de la ligne. Cette épaisseur partagée permet de préserver l’intimité des unités tout en les ouvrant sur le grand paysage. Aux extrémités de la ligne se trouvent les pièces à vocation privatives puis graduellement, se rapprochant du centre, sont organisés les espaces communs.

These three homes sited on a communal farm propose alternative modes of domesticity and co-habitation, both within the home and between homes. While interior and exterior spaces flow into each other, the houses responds to the climatic conditions of this near-desert locale and function like sundials; the occupants move around the houses and the gardens according to the time of day. Houses 1 + 2 are sited along the same line and each house disappears from the visual sight line of the other, establishing a sense of privacy. The two extreme ends of the line shelter the most private spaces for reflection; as one moves towards the middle, the spaces become increasingly more communal, with the center held by the shared guest quarters of the two houses.
