Pour répondre à ce programme très divers et assez complexe, construit d’éléments très différents, alliant au pôle culturel une dimension hôtelière, tertiaire et une composante résidentielle très importante, nous avons tenu à ce que le projet ne soit en aucun cas une collection d’objets architecturaux. C’est l’ensemble du projet qui est la maison de l’architecture et pas simplement une partie du site. Sans cela les autres composantes qui rendent le pôle culturel possible prennent une importance trop grande et la maison de l’architecture devient anecdotique.

The competition program was rather various and complex; it included cultural centers, hotels, shops and residences, and we wanted to avoid the creation of a mere collection of architectural objects. Our Maison de l’Architecture finds, thus, its identity in the whole and not on single components, allowing the project not to be trivial.
