Fondée en 2001 par Linna Choi et Tarik Oualalou, établie à Paris, conduisant des projets au Maroc, l'agence Oualalou+Choi évolue en dehors des cases de l’échiquier habituel et propose une vision décloisonnée de l’architecture. En plus de vingt ans de carrière, O+C a livré plus de quarante bâtiments, constituant un corpus solide de réalisations et de projets se présentant comme autant « de modalités de négociations ». Parmi les projets d’avenir, Tarik Oualalou et Linna Choi se sont manifestés dès le lendemain du tremblement de terre qui a dévasté le Maroc, le 8 septembre 2023, pour proposer leurs services afin de plancher à la reconstruction, un effort qu’ils extraient des manichéismes habituels. Tradition et modernité, terre et béton, ville et campagne... Penseurs de la chose architecturale et urbaine, Linna Choi et Tarik Oualalou n’oublient pas qu’ils sont architectes, que ce rôle est politique, et qu’à ce titre il est, loin des manœuvres politiciennes, une affaire de territoires hybrides. Ce hors-série de L'Architecture d'Aujourd'hui propose une lecture de l'œuvre architecturale de l'agence Oualalou + Choi à travers 5 notions qui leur sont chères : acclimatation, disparition, familiarité, transgression et nomadisme.

Founded in 2001 by Linna Choi and Tarik Oualalou, with offices in Paris and projects in Morocco, the Oualalou+Choi practice moves outside the usual box, offering a decompartmentalized vision of architecture. In a career spanning more than twenty years, O+C has delivered more than forty buildings, building up a solid corpus of achievements and projects presented as “modalities of negotiation”. Among the projects of the future, Tarik Oualalou and Linna Choi came forward the day after the earthquake that devastated Morocco on September 8, 2023, to offer their services for the reconstruction effort, an effort that they extract from the usual manicheisms. Tradition and modernity, earth and concrete, town and country... Thinkers of the architectural and urban world, Linna Choi and Tarik Oualalou never forget that they are architects, that their role is political, and that as such, far from political maneuvering, it is a matter of hybrid territories. This special issue of L'Architecture d'Aujourd'hui offers a reading of the architectural work of Oualalou + Choi through 5 concepts that are dear to them: acclimatization, disappearance, familiarity, transgression and nomadism.
